We would all like our children to have healthy, positive self-esteem – a sense of self-worth. A child with high self-esteem feels confident about who they are and the potential they have. They are more open to learning new things, which help them grow, and better cope with the challenges and obstacles they face. Not surprisingly, they are more likely to succeed in school, and afterwards, by achieving the goals they set themselves.
Primary-school age is an excellent time to start building robust self-esteem, because children’s minds are generally much more flexible and open than an adult’s. So why not start planting the seeds of healthy self-esteem in your child now?
This “I’m Awesome Because…” exercise aims to help your child to recognise their unique strengths, positive characteristics and accomplishments. By completing it, your child is building the foundations of an authentic self-esteem, one which they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
